The ESL (English as a Second Language)

The ESL (English as a Second Language) ministry at Trinity Baptist Church exists to help adults who do not speak English as their first language grow in their English conversational and language skills.

Our classes meet every Thursday during the school year from 1:00 pm-2:30 pm. Classes are free to attend, and everyone is welcome! A textbook is available for a small fee.

We use Intercambio’s Confidence and Connections curriculum, a multi-level program that focuses on developing English skills through relationships and conversation. We offer five levels of classes that range from beginner (Level 1) to advanced (Level 5).

In Level 1, students practice using the present tense and common vocabulary words for everyday conversations. They also begin to use the future tense.

In Level 2, students begin to use the past tense and continue to practice using the present and future tenses for everyday conversations.

In Level 3, students continue to practice and gain confidence in using the past, present, and future tenses to navigate everyday life.

In Level 4, students practice using more complex structures in the past, present, future, and conditional tenses to discuss a range of topics, including real and hypothetical contexts.

In Level 5, students practice using a variety of more complex vocabulary and grammar structures in regular conversation. Discussion topics create opportunities for students and teachers to engage with different personal and cultural perspectives.

New students will take a placement test to determine which class level will best support their language needs.
